I'm kinda obsessed with replacing the hall light in the house. I bought a really cool set on ebay and then promptly dropped it and broke the glass shade. I've bid on several others but haven't won any yet. In general though I think the house needs some more light and any of these would help modernize the scheme a bit.

Progress 07.20.09
It seems like we should be a lot farther along than this, but between work and having various events to take us out of town on the weekends, this is all we have done. The den is complete as of last night. All that remains is touch up places where the paint bled beneath the tape lines and rehanging the blinds. The living room has been primed on all of the trim and the top half has received its first coat of paint. The garage door is being hung as we speak. Other, non-visible projects were completed this weekend - namely I rehung the track on the kitchen drawer (it was ridiculously crooked and would not shut properly) and I hooked up the icemaker to the water line. I also organized all of the tools and the miscellaneous building supplies and cleaned up a little bit, but there is dust EVERYWHERE from the sanding we did so I need to bring in some heavy duty cleaning supplies this week to get everything up and out. The exciting conclusion?? We're on track to move in this weekend!!

How long has it been?
Since you've had ice cream in a cone? When I was a little girl, my grandmother and I would always stop on our way home from any trip to Waco or Temple and get a dipped cone each from McDonald's. I loved to eat the crunchy chocolate shell off first. The cone I ate sides first and then the bottom was always eaten all at once, the cold hurting my teeth as I chewed so that I had to use the roof of my mouth and lips to mash the cone up. I just picked up some ice cream from the food court downstairs and it reminded me of how much fun is lost when you eat ice cream the grown up way, with a spoon. Yet another reason why being a grown up just isn't as much fun.

Woof!
So, what makes this funny to me is that Henrik never barks. He makes almsot zero noise, except in the mornings when he makes this groan sound when he stretches his legs. And sometimes when he wimpers at the cats because they won't play with him. Then we took him to Austin to hang with Michelle and Jason and their dog Barnaby taught him what barking was all about. This was his attempt to protect me from the "scary" construction workers in the park! Until he decided to hide behind me....

It felt like two hundred years......
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez
rating: 2 of 5 stars
I probably need to try reading this again, but I really didn't like it. At all. Its been a while, so I'm having a hard time remembering why... but the residual thought is I found it boring and over written. 95% of the people I know who have read this absolutely adore it, meanwhile I keep thinking "what's the big deal"?
